Farfalle, Fettuccine, Angel Hair and Penne. These strangely named and differently shaped pasta will surely stir up one’s appetite. Add a generous serving of your favourite pasta sauce and a mouth-watering pasta is ready to be devoured.

Some Heads Up students had a hands-on experience on pasta making, from scratch, with one of Malaysia’s best chef, Chef Zauhudi, Head Chef of School of Hospitality at Inti College. With just a couple of eggs, a bag of flour, a tablespoon of olive oil and a pinch of salt, these simple ingredients turned into a big lump of pasta dough, which after resting for thirty minutes, was ready to be used.

Then, with a pasta-maker machine, the participants had fun turning pieces of dough into two different types of pasta — Fettuccine and Angel Hair. The pasta was then boiled with salt and olive oil till perfectly cooked.

What’s pasta without sauce? Students observed curiously as the chef prepared two sauces — Cream and Bolognese. These sauces had chicken with various vegetables such as onion and eggplant. The full recipes can be found on Inti’s website.

While waiting for the scrumptious meal, a friendly barista came along and happily brewed us aromatic cups of coffee. We sipped and enjoyed every drop.

Soon all there was left to do was to mix the freshly cooked pasta with the sauces and some fresh thyme and parsley were sprinkled on top. We could not wait to try it. The appetizing fettuccine was swimming in rich creamy sauce. The Angel Hair pasta also looked irresistible and inviting. We happily digged in and enjoyed every mouthful.

After a satisfying meal, everyone gathered in the hall area. Some played giant chess while others simply rested before returning to Heads Up. The excursion to Inti was rather fun and I can’t wait to give the recipes a try!
