Ms. Tan Hwee Yong
Founder / Head of School/ Economics Teacher
Ms Tan holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) degree and a Master of Public Administration from Universiti Malaya. She received two notable awards whilst pursuing her Master programme: Fellowship from Universiti Malaya for outstanding research work and a full scholarship from Keio University of Japan to be a PhD candidate. She was a lecturer at Sunway College and specialist tutor for 15 years before becoming the Founder, Principal and Economics teacher of Heads Up International. A dedicated and encouraging A-level and IGCSE Economics teacher, Ms Tan has mentored, influenced, guided and equipped young people under her care to become successful students over her many years as an educator . Her exam notes and techniques have consistently helped her students ace their examinations, some of whom have received the Cambridge Brilliance Award. Believing in the potential of each student, she challenges her students to be courageous, proactive and well prepared, so that when an opportunity arises, they can readily seize it.

Ms. Fung Li-Cheng
Deputy Head of School / English Language Teacher
Ms Fung holds a Bachelor of Economics from La Trobe University in Melbourne, a Diploma in Education from the University of Melbourne and a certificate in TESOL. She has been teaching in different capacities since 1986 and over the years she has grown in her conviction that students can reach their potential when teachers intentionally create an environment of trust, respect, interdependence, creativity and kindness. Her motto: To teach is to bless lives.

Ms. Maggie Oh
Finance & Admin Manager
Ms Maggie is a well-qualified accountant who has worked in one of the Big 4 accounting firms in Malaysia before joining Heads Up. Her wealth of experience has enabled her to make the Financial Literacy Lessons come alive for our students. She has a great rapport with students, and she has developed a heart to help student grow to become better adults in the future.

Ms. Normala Karim
Admin Officer
Ms Normala holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Hospitality and Recreation Management. Kind and soft-spoken, she exhibits great care to detail in the daily operations that keep this school up and running. A quote she lives by, and which she hopes to pass on to her students: “Life is the most difficult exam. Many people fail because they try to copy others, not realising that everyone has a different question paper.”

Ms. Jaya Pushani
English Language Teacher
Ms Jaya holds a BA in English Literature from University of Malaya, a Diploma in Education in Teaching ESL, and a Master of Education from University of Manchester. A teacher since 1977, she believes that if a student takes the trouble to come to school, then it is the teacher’s responsibility to teach with intention. Something she wants her students to know is this: “Age is just a number. You are never too young to start learning; you are never too old to stop. Do not be too much in a hurry to grow up. Step out of your gizmos and smell the roses.”

Ms. Chin Fui Leng
Chemistry Teacher
Ms Chin holds a Master of Science in Food Biotechnology from the University of Strathclyde, UK and has been teaching since 1994. She is famed for her highly effective teaching method refined over many years. A dedicated and caring teacher, she wishes for her students to develop good and godly values, which though not required in class, are important outside of academics.

Mr. Peter Yong
Accounting Teacher
Mr Peter is an experienced Accounting teacher having taught this subject for the past 12 years. He was an accountant for many years, but a higher calling led him to make teaching his new vocation. Mr Peter’s passion for teaching is continually fuelled by the joy of seeing his students grow in understanding of the subject. He says: ‘The joy in seeing a student achieve A* in Accounting is something money cannot buy.’

Ms. May Khew
English Language Teacher
Ms May holds a Bachelor of Arts (Geography) degree and a Diploma in Education in Teaching ESL from Universiti Malaya. Her love of the English language was inspired by her Sixth Form Literature teacher and she aims to pass it on to her students. She taught English fresh out of university and has never looked back. Her teaching experience in national and international schools and colleges has helped her grow as a more effective teacher. She holds on to the philosophy that every child, regardless of whether they are smart, timid, bored or even rebellious, has the raw material within them to work on, and what is needed is for a teacher who cares enough to draw it out of them. Ms May aspires to be such a teacher.

Mr. Goh Chun Yong
Chinese Language Teacher
Mr Goh holds a Bachelor in Chinese Literature from the National Kaohsiung Normal University in Taiwan. He believes that a teacher must play a role to shape students through setting a good example, teaching knowledge and skill, and encouraging students to explore the unknown world. He also sees the importance of planting the seed of virtue into their hearts and cultivating a positive attitude towards learning and life through his job as an educator.

Ms. Michelle Khang
English Language Teacher
Ms Michelle holds a certificate in TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) as well as in Business English and has been teaching since 2011. She believes that very student can thrive if put in the correct environment and given adequate encouragement and nurturing. Her advice to her students is to always be determined to do better. “What you don’t know today can be learned, so keep learning. That’s progress.”

Ms. Haryani Binti Kamarudin
Malay Language, Geography & History Teacher
Ms Haryani has a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from SEGI University. She is a firm but fun-loving teacher who has been teaching since 2009. She believes that successful educators are those who can confidently and creatively sell their ideas to students and connect with their minds that constantly challenge, though with appropriate rule enforcement. Her lessons reflect her emphasis on holistic education, hands-on activities, creative expression of student voices, and opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.

Mr. Nelson Tei
ICT Teacher
Mr Tei holds a Bachelor in Chemical Engineering from University of Malaya and has been teaching for more than 5 years. Leveraging his experience in the ICT industry, he started ICT classes in Heads Up International and hopes to provide beneficial real-life skills that students can utilise.
He believes in the importance of cultivating interest and promoting self-learning, especially in today’s fast-paced society, where students must be adaptable as jobs become obsolete quickly.

Ms. Nurul Hidah Sulimai
Science Teacher
Ms Hildah holds a Master of Research in Chemistry from Surrey University in the United Kingdom and is currently pursuing a PhD in Chemistry in Universiti Teknologi MARA. She helps students understand complicated concepts by breaking the problem into smaller components. She lives by the quote: “You only lose if you quit trying”. Often time she will remind her students that good results are not everything without the right attitude or approach, and that It is okay to fail, as long as you never stop trying to improve.”

Ms. Shahira Binti Mohd Afzal
English Language Teacher
Ms Shahira holds a Master of Criminal Justice from the University of Malaya. A firm believer in the power of language and critical thinking she found her passion for teaching English seven years ago, and she has never looked back since. She has been teaching English and Malay also at various institutions since 2015. Her favourite advise to her students who are analysing a text is “read between the line”.

Ms. Pang Sui Ping
Biology & Chinese Language Teacher
Ms Pang holds a Master of Medical Science from the University of Malaya, with years of research and lab experience in several fields in Biology, particularly Microbiology. She began teaching in 2014 and has since been a science teacher in Chinese independent high schools, an A-Level Biology lecturer, and a home tutor to secondary (Science), and A-Level (Biology) students. Her favourite part about teaching is to see her students improve and grow.

Ms. Tan Siow Yin
Physics & Mathematics Teacher
Ms Tan holds a Bachelor in E&E Engineering as well as a Master of Science in Communication and Signal Processing, both from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. She has 14 years of teaching experience as an E&E Engineering lecturer at various colleges since 2005. As a Physics teacher, her goal is for her students to use the theoretical principles of Physics in practical life applications.

Mr. Teh Yin Seng
Mathematics Teacher
Mr. Teh graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Finance from Multimedia University Cyberjaya, and he has been teaching Mathematics since 2003. The motto he lives by as a teacher and as a person is “to each his own”. He believes that a teacher should use teaching strategies that will enable students to discover their capabilities, to develop their individuality, and thereby achieve their potential. His advice to students: “Do not be afraid to try new things and explore new avenues in life as long as it does not risk your life or cost you a fortune, and always within the bounds of moral values.”

Mr. Edmund Ooi
Mathematics & Additional Mathematics Teacher
Mr Edmund has a background in Computer Engineering. He is a full time Mathematics and Additional Mathematics tutor for both the local (SPM) and international (IGCSE) syllabi since the year 2013. His favourite part about being a teacher is when he gets to change the way students look at the subject. He believes that good understanding is crucial in making progress in Mathematics. He embraces every question and mistake made by his students, and he tries his best to understand them from their perspective because he believes that there are no stupid questions and there can be a logical reason behind each mistake.

Ms. Wong Mei Yan
Physics & Science Teacher
Ms Wong has a Bachelor of Science degree from UTAR. Later she took up a Postgraduate Diploma from Universiti Malaya to fulfil her childhood ambition to be a teacher. During her four years of teaching, she noticed that she was not only teaching students, but she was also learning how to be an effective teacher through her interaction with her students. This experience gave her the conviction that teaching is life giving as it impacts both the teacher and the student. This is the very reason why she has chosen to pursue a career in teaching as in it, she has found life’s value.

Dr. Lisa
Business Studies & Economics Teacher
Dr Lisa’s passion for teaching started when she tutored students while waiting to further her tertiary studies in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. After graduating, she worked in the corporate sector for a few years, but then decided to switch to teaching as her passion to be an educator did not wane. Her desire to give her best as an educator led her to pursue the Cambridge International Diploma for Teachers and Trainers from University of Cambridge. To date Dr Lisa has 15 years of experience in teaching Business Studies and Economics. Her teaching philosophy is to treat all students equally through her teaching and attention. She also encourages her students with this quote: ‘You may be slow but keep on walking and you will reach your destination one day.’

Ms. Lee Shuk Mee
Mathematics & Add Mathematics Teacher
Ms Lee graduated with a Bachelor of Mathematics from Universiti Malaya. Over her 18 years of teaching Mathematics, she has come to understand that students come with different levels of proficiency in Mathematics. This realisation has motivated her to use a variety of teaching techniques together with the right morale support so that no student is left out. After so many years of teaching, she is still very determined to give her best in educating students. She would motivate her students with this saying: ‘Don’t give up because the sun will always shine tomorrow.’
